To be a 3rd, degree Black Belt or Renshi Belt, student must demonstrate an above average understanding of UWMA American Freestyle, Student must also be at least 16 years of age. No Jr. black belt may be promoted to the level of Renshi.  Student may also be required to test outside of the Dojo, this will only be a select few who have earned the Dojo's ultimate trust.  Those who do not train outside the Dojo will still be required to demonstrate their martial arts proficiency, inside the school.

To be a 4th or 5th degree Black Belt or Renshi, the student must demonstrate how martial arts has changed their life and how and what they plan on doing with their knowledge. Student must also demonstrate how they have bettered the world of martial arts through their teaching, this will be proven by letters of recommendation for promotion from at least 10 students.  Further details will be given directly to the student.

Renshi belts are students who will continue to train and teach the martial arts.  Should a student not poses this skill, they will be held back until a decision is made on how to proceed.  This belt is held at the highest regard, only 2nd to a master belt, so care and thought must go into each student who will wear this belt.

Higher Dan grades are not to be taken lightly, most students feel they have reached a goal once they earn a 1st degree black belt. To often this goal is immediately met with the felling of completion, and students quit.  This is understandable, but unfortunate.  That's why dan grades are not to be taken lightly, this is no simple goal but a lifestyle.  A true Renshi knows only the will to endeavor and explore what they have not accomplished, not what they’ve already done.

“A Black Belt is just a White Belt who never quit”

“ A Master is just a Black Belt who never quit”

Which one are you?
