Hard working, always focused
and a never quit attitude. Caitlin. Seeing that the last two
"Students of the year" were female, Caitlin does nothing but
further emphasize the fact that martial arts is truly a coed
sport. Don't misjudge her by her quiet demeanor, she speaks
loudly in her actions. There are many qualities that help a
martial artist excel, but in my opinion "heart" is at the top of
the list, and that is one area that she has no lack of. She
recently sustained a broken toe that would have kept most
students from training for a few weeks... not Caitlin. She
simply taped up the toe, and showed up for her workouts, never
once missing a class or sitting out. Heart.
Our 9 - 12 year old class has a very positive "chemistry"
that most schools strive for, the secret ingredient is students
like Caitlin. She gives "Practice Hard" a whole new meaning...
great job Caitlin.

The 2005 Holiday party is already behind us.. but not
forgotten. Myself (Sensei Butch) and Master Sanchez would like
to personally thank ALL OF YOU who attended. We know it's not
easy to set a night aside in a busy month like December but
roughly 200 of you did. Thank You!
I can only hope you had as much fun as we did. From the
dancing to Santa Claus the night was full of fun. It seems that
all of the children also had their fare share of fun, and we had
multiple comments from Oakwood Manor's staff on how polite and
well behaved the students were.
Well..time to start planning next years! (Wow.. I'm not
even kidding...).

Mickey! Was there any other choice?
Student of the year is judged on many different qualities... we try
to find a student who stands out, consistently, all year, in a
number of these aspects... Mickey had them all.
Her smile, eagerness to learn and talent for learning it,
personality, commitment to workouts and above all else her ability
and love for sharing her skills with others. Mickey has these
traits and many more.
When it came time to pick the student of the year, a funny
thing happened, myself (Sensei Butch) and Master Sanchez blurted out
one name, at the same time... Mickey. We laughed and decided to ask
the other instructors and Mrs. Kim... each and every one mentioned
one name, with no hesitation, Mickey. We even had some fellow
students and parents "suggest" a person for us... each time, same
person... Mickey.
Who can argue with that? In spite of our age requirements for
any "trainee" instructors being at least 16, Mickey was still
recently raised to a "Trainee Instructor" and is now referred to as
"Sempai Mickey". I think we can bend the rules in her case. Great
Job Mickey!
